Colour Explosion!

We are halfway through the sculptures we will showcase for the Art’s Exhibition next week.  They have taken us a while to produce, but good things always take time, here it the WALT (We Are Learning To) for our work.

Here are some snaps of our fun.  The Art’s Exhibition will be in the hall from Wednesday next week and with Athletics Day next Friday you can come and see some action of the field and art in the hall, and, as an extra bonus there will be a coffee cart at school for Athletics Day too!

Sculpture
Inspired by Romero Britto

Romero Britto is a self taught artist born in Brazil, living in Miami.  He combines elements of cubism, pop art and graffiti painting in his work, using vibrant colors and bold patterns as a visual expression of hope and happiness.
Influenced by Romero Britto, we created a 3D form using recycled items  We then paper mached them before applying multiple coats of acrylic paint to bring out the bold colours.

Mr Frog

We had an amphibian friend visit last week at school!  Noah and Ellie discovered a frog in Harling Park!  Mr Frog spent the day at school with us, being visited by lots of our Kowhai friends.  Although the real surprise came after school when Mr Frog scared the living daylights out of big group or parents, kids and myself included when he tried to escape!  He jumped clean out of the bowl and flew through the air!  It was like something out of a Roald Dahl book!

Never fear, Mr Frog made it safely back home when we managed to get him back in the bowl...

Camp fun!

Here were are racing the other camp teams trying to make our way across part of the field on chairs without touching the grass. Boy, was there some interesting techniques!  One of the girls team just blitz everyone else with their superb teamwork!  Well done everyone...

The Minstrel visits us!

We are so fortunate to have had the Minstrel visit us last week, The Minstrel is the author of the well known Hiwi the Kiwi books and CD’s.  He and his wife travel for most of the year around New Zealand spreading joy and stories through song and dance.  We learned all about how we can protect our fish and native birds, what we can do do be safe in the when we boating.

Definitely ask your children all about what they have learned, it was extremely interesting and important information and tips!

Don’t Mr Holmes and The Minstrel look like long lost brothers!

Practise makes Perfect!

We’ve been taking advantage of the sunshine by brushing up on our Athletics Day sports.  Here we are trying to remember to push, not throw a shot-put.  Why not ask your delightful child some of the techniques!

Camp Preparation! Week 1

The Year 4 camp team got together today to start our camp preparation.  Wow, what an amazing group of students we have coming on our 2017 camp.  Miss Meyrick and I are so excited to be leading this team.
Here are a few photos of our activities...

We met our groups and went on a magic carpet ride (team bonding and group challenges!).

We have made a Information Poster based on a Native Bird, this is also our group name.  We also listened to the bird song of our bird to help us try and identify the bird at Pine Valley.

As you can tell, we are very excited about camp!

Farewell Ziggy!

We'll be very sad to start Term 4 without Ziggy, although I know he will be excited about starting a new school meeting lots of new friends.  He also knows that he will always have friends here at Witherlea.  Here are some photos of his last day; our farewell morning tea, games and a send off.  Look forward to seeing you over summer, Ziggy!
