What a fabulous day the Year 3's had on Friday! 3 adventures in one day.
We started at the Marlborough Express, where we learnt how reporters write stories, how they write in little squiggles because people talk fast, how it is now online and they can see how long people look at the article for! We then wrote a story with Ian.
After that we went to the Millennium Gallery, wow, we were so lucky to have a real artist there. Nick Dillon spoke about how he paints birds - he does not take photos, but his work is like real. We finished the day with a scavenger hunt around Pollard Park.
Perfect day, with a group of wonderful parents who came and helped us out as well - Thank you!!

Being scientists
We've been learning about how early scientists that visited New Zealand didn't have cameras. They had to draw the plants and animals they saw. We had a go in our forest!

Cricket Coaching with Arthur
We had a great day learning the important cricket skills with Arthur today, what a great coach he is!
We did some fielding drills called Last One Standing and played a cool speed cricket game... by the way, the girls won both activities!

STEM-W task
For the next few Tuesday's Room 17 is working on a STEM-W task.
STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, and we are combining Writing as well.
We familiarised ourselves with the Jack and the Beanstalk story and in small teams were assigned to design a parachute capable to carrying Jack safety from the top of the playground to the bottom at a slower decent than our control drop.
We've tested our first design and are looking forward to some modifications next week! Mrs Muir
