Camp gear list

Camp gear list

It is really important that you DON'T bring things you don't really need, as there won't be enough room to take everything.

Torch
Sleeping bag
Pillow case
Hat
Towels-2
Swimming gear (wet suits, togs) - for kayaking
Shorts x2
t-shirts 3-4
warm top
thermals - great as they don’t take up much room
jacket
1-2 pair long trousers, jeans, track pants etc.
Undies
Socks
Shoes(trainers)
PJs
Toiletries (toothpaste etc.)
Pencil case
tea towel
Day pack

Food
Morning tea, packed lunch and drink for Tuesday.
‘Home baking’ (eg, bacon & egg pie, savouries, quiche, biscuits etc), for morning and afternoon tea during the week.   Enough for 6-10 people is plenty.

                       Optional  -  Camera
-       Playing cards
-       Fishing rod / handline.  Mr R has a few handlines plus spare        sinkers and hooks
-       Reading book

Have all your belongings identified in some way.
It's a good idea to bring a plastic bag or similar to put all your dirty gear in, as you need to so it doesn't get mixed up with the clean stuff!

What not to bring
Cellphones
Electrical or battery operated games

MP3’s, ipods, ipads etc

Calendar Art

We've been working on our Calendars this week.  Our inspiration was from a famous artist named Timo Ranalli.  He was born in Finland but grew up in New Zealand.

Techniques:  curved horizons,  bright water colours, painting from top to bottom.

All calendars will be on the blog by the end of this week.

A big congratulations Room 10 on your dancing Wednesday night.  All of that practice was worth it in the end.   It's difficult to learn and remember all those steps!

Class update

Room 10 update.

Dear Parents/caregivers,
Another term is flying by and the students have been extremely busy undertaking experiments and practicing for the Dance Festival.

Dance Festival

Our preparation for the dance festival is going to plan and I’m really impressed with how  well the class is practicing - there are some quite complex steps!

What to wear:  Can the children please wear plain dark clothing (black if possible).
Boys:  long trousers and a plain top/long sleeve shirt
Girls:  dark leggings and a plain top         # if possible no big designs or logos

Science and Technology Fair.

The class has been a busy, bustling place this week and the students exhibits are taking shape.
The exhibits will be ready for display in classrooms this Wednesday 10th in the afternoon.  Parents, grandparents, family members are welcome to come along and have a look.

#  If your child’s exhibit is chosen for the Marlborough Scitec Fair on the 16th September (at the stadium), you will receive a notice detailing drop off/pick up and judging times.

Work ethic and high standards

We’ve been talking in class about working hard and setting high standards for ourselves.  At this age the students are quite often working on 3-4 different tasks at a time which means they need to be focused and thinking about time management.
For example, this term they have been working on:
  • poetry portfolio
  • dinosaur study
  • a piece of argument writing (class speech)
  • Science Fair exhibit
  • weekly grammar
A lot of our discussion in class is focused around being able to work on these tasks independently, checking in with the teacher on a regular basis to ask questions and get feedback.

Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday and at the Dance Festival.

# no homework this week
